As expected, after this Wednesday the UEFA high command rejected the FIFA financing plan proposed by its head, Gianni Infantino, this Thursday the plenary session of the federations that make up the European football body joined in vetoing this project. Likewise, they announced an official boycott of their competitions if the idea of advancing the proposal persists.
As a result of the position of the European organization, Concacaf did not take long to join in rejecting this idea under the argument that football should remain in the hands of the football family itself, the organizations that have fought so hard for its growth and not fall into the excesses of mercantilism.
The reaction of the European affiliates is the result of Gianni Infantino's announcement about the creation of a subsidiary that would grant 20 billion dollars for the holding of the next 2030 World Cup. This edition would have the participation of 64 teams, seeking to replicate the economic success that the recent 2026 edition had in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
In this project there is the idea of granting 20% external financing with million-dollar profits that would benefit all countries. However, the plan omits that the real trap of this project is the overexploitation of the players, who are the raw material of the event.
