Xabi Alonso stands against the Barcelona match in Miami of LaLiga
Real Madrid will be protesting this Sunday against the Barcelona vs. Villarreal match in Miami
Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid coach, stood against the match that Barcelona vs. Villarreal in Miami of LaLiga.
Real Madrid will support the initiative of the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) on Sunday at the Coliseum against Getafe, which will be with a symbolic protest of not playing the first minutes of the match.
"My opinion is the same as two months ago. We are against the match because it adulterates the competition. There has not been unanimity for it to be played on neutral ground and there has been no consultation," said Xabi Alonso in a press conference.
The coach admitted that his team will join the protest started by the Real Oviedo and Espanyol players in the match brought forward to Friday in the ninth round of the league.
This Friday, the Oviedo and Espanyol players protested without moving during the first 15 seconds of the match. The broadcast cameras ended up focusing on the surroundings of the stadium during the protest.
“The protests are positive because it shows the feeling that many clubs have. We are against this decision being taken unilaterally. It can happen if there is unanimity among all the clubs, but that is not the case,” he said.
Xabi Alonso did not go any further when asked if Real Madrid would be willing to skip their match and go on strike, on the last matchday of 2025 when the duel between Villarreal and Barcelona was scheduled to be played in Miami.
“Our position is the same. The decisions that need to be made to prevent this from happening probably fall to other people, but our position is the same,” he insisted.
