It's not just a cosmetic redesign. It's a complete evolution, with OLED screen technology for the first time in the Ally line, renewed controls and a bundle that includes augmented reality glasses that will probably make you forget what you thought you knew about portable gaming.

An OLED screen that changes the rules of the game

The biggest change—and the most anticipated—comes on the screen. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 debuts ROG Nebula HDR Display technology, based on a 7.4-inch OLED panel, 12% larger than its direct predecessor. That difference translates into a radically more immersive viewing experience, with 1,400 nits of peak brightness in HDR moments and full support for Dolby Vision.

Response time drops to 0.2ms, and refresh rate reaches 120Hz with FreeSync Premium Pro support, ensuring every frame looks exactly as it should, without tearing or artifacts. Coming full circle, Corning DXC glass with anti-reflective coating reduces glare by 65%, something any outdoor gamer will deeply appreciate. The cooling system was also specifically redesigned to protect the OLED panel from heat, channeling airflow directly to the APU and keeping display surface temperatures as low as possible.

Plenty of power and controls that will never fail

Under that spectacular OLED panel lives an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, the same high-performance chip as the Ally X, with up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of NVMe PCIe 4.0 storage. There are no generational leaps in pure performance, but you don't need them either. The Z2 Extreme is already a beast that moves practically any modern game with ease.

Where there are important new features is in the controls. The sticks now use TMR (Tunneling Magnetoresistance) technology, which eliminates drift at its roots, consumes less energy and offers greater precision even than Hall Effect sensors. The transformable D-Pad can go from 4-way to 8-way configuration in seconds, ideal for fighting games. And the action buttons were redesigned to sit flush with the chassis, facilitating faster, more complex thumb movements. Another no small improvement is compatibility with microSD Express, which significantly speeds up loading speeds on external cards.

In terms of autonomy, the console maintains the 80Wh battery of the previous generation, with 68W fast charging via USB-C. Although the manufacturer has not yet published exact battery life figures in active use, the 80Wh is the same tank that has already proven to be more than competent in the Ally X.

The craziest bundle you'll see on a handheld: AR glasses included

If the console alone is already impressive, the bundle goes one step further. The ROG Xbox Ally Native 3DoF head tracking allows you to anchor the image in space or let it follow movement. The connection is direct via USB-C, without drivers or complicated configuration.

The design of the entire collection is another strong point. The translucent black casing reveals the inside of the machine and its golden internal structure, a nostalgic nod to the gaming era of the 2000s but with a decidedly futuristic aesthetic. On the back it sports an exclusive ROG 20th anniversary badge, making this console a real collector's item.

As for the price, ASUS has not yet confirmed an official figure for the complete bundle. Taking into account that the ROG XREAL R1 glasses alone cost around $850 and that the Ally X was around $900, everything indicates that the final price of the set will exceed $1,500. The availability date has also not been officially announced, although the launch at Computex 2026 suggests it will hit the market in the coming months.
