If you are one of those who pays every month for YouTube Premium, get ready because your subscription is about to get even juicier. Google and NBCUniversal closed a deal that will put Peacock into the YouTube Premium package at no additional cost, and this could change the way millions of people consume streaming in the United States.
The news comes just a few weeks after YouTube raised the price of its Premium subscription in the US market, so this announcement sounds like an attempt to soften that blow with a benefit that is really worth it.
What exactly does the user gain with this benefit?
The version of Peacock that will be added to YouTube Premium is the one that includes ads, the same one that normally costs $10.99 per month separately. Although it has advertising, the catalog is still huge and varied, with current productions such as “The Day of the Jackal” and classics that never go out of style such as “The Office”, “Parks and Recreation”, “Community” and “Yellowstone”.
Who can enjoy Peacock for free
Here comes the part that must be read calmly because not all subscribers will enter at the same time or under the same conditions. The benefit will be available only for eligible accounts in the United States, as Peacock officially operates in that country. Google has not yet detailed precisely what the exact requirements are to qualify, although everything indicates that subscribers of the Lite plan, which costs $9 per month, would be left out of this extra because that plan already offers fewer features than the standard plan.
If you have the standard YouTube Premium individual plan, which is around $15.99 per month, or the family plan, your chances of receiving free access to Peacock go up quite a bit. Of course, the deployment will not be immediate. Full integration is scheduled for early 2027, so there's still time before you can activate Peacock from the YouTube app itself.
What is still unclear about the agreement
There are several details that Google and NBCUniversal have not yet finished clarifying, and that generates both expectations and some reasonable doubts. For example, it's unclear whether this benefit will later come to countries outside the United States, or whether current YouTube Premium prices will remain stable once Peacock is fully integrated.
Another interesting point is that those who prefer to subscribe to Peacock Premium Plus, the version without ads, will be able to continue doing so as a paid add-on through YouTube Primetime Channels for about $10.99 per month. In addition, international NBCUniversal services such as Universal and Hayu would also join YouTube Premium in select markets, suggesting that this alliance could grow even further in the future.
Until 2027 arrives, the best thing you can do is review which YouTube Premium plan you currently have and pay attention to official announcements from Google, because these types of benefits are usually activated in stages and not all users receive them at the same time. If all goes as planned, your monthly subscription could become one of the most complete streaming bundles on the market without you having to spend an extra dollar.
