The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) on Wednesday named Andrés Chait as the new superintendent effective immediately following the recent resignation of Alberto Carvalho from the position.
The designation was announced by the LAUSD Board of Education, which is the second largest school district in the United States.
Chait was serving as LAUSD superintendent on an interim basis after Carvalho was suspended in February 2026 amid an FBI investigation.
