While the United States claims to have stopped the attacks to leave the door open to dialogue, Iran denies this.
Despite the ceasefire, signed in April 2026, and the June protocol of agreement to advance a lasting peace, both countries resumed hostilities in early July. For two days, there has been a truce.
"What the president is doing at this moment (...) is leaving room for negotiations. The negotiations continue," the US ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, declared this Sunday, July 26, to North American media.
“No negotiations”
Iran, for its part, denies such contacts. "The mediators can convey messages to us from the American side about the latest developments in the region. But currently, we are not involved in any negotiations with the United States," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai said at a press conference on Monday, July 27.
“As long as this behavior on the part of the United States continues, we cannot hope for a reasonable process to emerge,” Baqai added.
