Los Angeles County first responders rescued 1,950 people over the weekend under high surf conditions, amid a dangerous heat wave hitting Southern California.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) reported that the number is similar to what was recorded last weekend, when high surf conditions and dangerous rip currents also persisted.
The high-risk conditions in Southern California were caused by the effects of Hurricane Genevieve, which, although it did not make landfall, its winds caused the strong waves and unusually warm water temperatures that were recorded over the weekend on the region's coasts.
