Mayor Karen Bass signed an updated rent stabilization in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The ordinance limits annual rent increases between 1% and 4%, in addition to eliminating additional charges for utilities for apartments built before October 1, 1978.
Bass signed the new guidelines for units subject to the Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO), authorizing the first major overhaul of rent control law in more than four decades.
