The government intends to rehire hundreds of federal employees dismissed months ago
The US government takes a step back and intends to rehire thousands of former employees who had been fired at the suggestion of Elon Musk
Hundreds of federal agency employees who were fired at the suggestion of Elon Musk, former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have received offers of rehiring to return to work for the government.
In this way, during the 130 days in which Musk worked as a special government employee, thousands of government collaborators were unemployed because they were considered unnecessary.
However, an internal memo obtained by the news agency The Associated Press indicates that the General Services Administration (GSA) sent a job proposal to hundreds of former federal employees to return to become part of the bureaucracy.
The plan is for interested persons to accept by this weekend at the latest, since they are expected in government offices to begin work on October 6.
The severance that the vast majority of the dismissed employees received at the time is equivalent to seven months of salary, which It involved an unnecessary expense for the government, this after taking a step back in trying to recruit them again.
Due to the massive layoffs recorded in most federal agencies, several of the buildings used to carry out their functions look half empty, but that does not prevent their electricity and other service consumption rates from continuing to be high.
However, a statement issued by the GSA fuels the possibility of strengthening the bureaucracy with the possible reinstatement of former employees.
“The GSA leadership team has reviewed the workforce actions and is making adjustments in the best interests of the client agencies we serve and the American taxpayer,” it states.
Although Elon Musk claimed at the time that the spending cuts achieved by the DOGE had lightened government spending, the Democratic Party dismissed this claim as inaccurate, arguing that the current administration is now spending more money.
