BMW: the 8 Series revives with the exclusive M850i Heritage
With the 2026 M850i Heritage Edition, BMW commemorates 35 years of the 8 Series, a model that became a benchmark of German luxury and sportiness
For more than three decades, the BMW 8 Series has represented the fusion of elegance and power within the Bavarian brand. Since its launch in 1990, that first coupe conquered both speed enthusiasts and those looking for a grand tourer with its own personality.

The world debut of this edition took place at the 2025 Monterey Car Week, in California, a perfect setting to showcase a car that combines exclusivity, design and historical memory.
BMW announced that only 500 units will be manufactured, all in Gran Coupe bodywork, a four-door format that allows the sporty spirit to be maintained without sacrificing practicality.
Colors with 90s nostalgia
One of the most striking details of this model is its exterior colors. BMW decided to pay tribute to the most iconic finishes of the 90s and will offer five exclusive colors: Brilliant Red, Mauritius Blue metallic, Cosmos Black metallic, Oxford Green metallic, and Daytona Violet metallic.
Each of them is inspired by the best-selling options during the first generation of the 8 Series.
The wheels also add character to the edition. As standard, it is equipped with two-tone 20-inch rims, while double-spoke rims in an orbital gray finish can be chosen as an option. This touch, along with high-performance summer tires, reinforces the sporty character of the proposal.
The carbon fiber roof and the tricolor stripes on the edges recall the DNA of the M division, a symbol of the sporting heritage that BMW seeks to highlight in every detail.
An interior designed for collectors
Inside the cabin,The M850i Heritage Edition is distinguished by finishes that directly reference the 1990 models. The M Sport seats feature black leather upholstery with diamond-stitching and synthetic suede trim.
The roof, dashboard, and door panels are covered in Alcantara, with an exclusive pattern that echoes the style of three decades ago. As an additional nod, the stitching uses the three signature colors of the M division: red, light blue, and dark blue.
BMW also integrated carbon fiber materials into the center console, gear lever, and door trim. Above the lever is a crystal plaque certifying the edition number, reinforcing the limited-edition character. The M badge is embroidered on the headrests, while the door sills read “M850i Edition M Heritage 1/500”.
V8 engine with the soul of a grand tourer
Although the focus of this edition is on the design and exclusivity, the mechanical section is not far behind. The M850i Heritage Edition is powered by the familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
Power is transmitted through an eight-speed automatic transmission, supported by an xDrive all-wheel drive system, enabling acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, which is more than sufficient for a grand tourer in its class.
With these features, the M850i Heritage maintains the balance between sporty performance and long-distance travel comfort, a hallmark that has accompanied the 8 Series since its first generation.
Exclusivity and price
The 2026 BMW M850i Heritage Edition will arrive at dealerships in November 2025, although orders are now open. With such limited production, demand is expected to quickly outstrip supply, especially among collectors and enthusiasts.
The base price has been set at $130,400, but as with other special BMW models, the value can be increased with customization options and additional packages.
Given the exclusivity of the 500 units, its value is likely to increase on the secondary market in the coming years.
