Hispanic Heritage Month began in a very special way for 67-year-old Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to travel to space, after it was decided to launch a Barbie doll to honor her and her legacy.

The figure of Ellen Ochoa, who is part of Barbie's 'Inspiring Women' series, went on sale on Monday, September 15, with prices ranging from $34.97 to $38.00.

The collectible doll shows Ellen Ochoa wearing the same spacesuit she wore on the mission she was part of in 1993.

Her outfit includes the traditional orange spacesuit with its respective patches, as well as her helmet, gloves, and boots.

"I helped them with the patches on the suit: it has my name, the NASA logo, and the insignia of my first mission, STS-56," the famous engineer explained in an interview with US Magazine.

In addition to drawing attention for the doll, this collection also attracts attention for the phrases that were included in the box and that are part of her career, so she hopes they will serve as inspiration for girls or families who have access to her special edition Barbie doll.

“The only way to discover the limits of what is possible is to venture just beyond them, into the impossible,” is one of the phrases included in the box and that accompanies her biography.

In addition to serving as a tribute to a very successful woman, the new launch will also serve as a donation for Mattel of $25,000.

“Barbie celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month! This year we honor Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina astronaut in space. To help the next generation reach for the stars, Barbie will donate $25,000 to @LatinasInSTEM. Because when kids see role models who look like them, the sky’s not the limit—it’s just the beginning,” reads a post on Instagram.
