American actor George Clooney and his wife Amal left their residence in Brignoles, a town in southeastern France, as a result of the forest fires that have broken out in southern Europe in recent days.
According to a letter signed by the couple and addressed to the mayor of Brignoles, Didier Brémond, the havoc that this natural disaster has left on the community is devastating.
“Dear Didier, at this moment we do not know if our beautiful house will survive this terrible moment,” the couple explains at the beginning of the letter.
After being evacuated along with 3,000 other residents of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, George and Amal Clooney reaffirmed their intention to remain active members of the community. For this reason, they committed to contributing to its reconstruction process:
"By evacuating Brignoles we want to emphasize two things: first, we hope that you and the inhabitants of our city are safe; and second, that Amal and I are committed to ensuring that, whatever happens to our town, we are part of this community and will contribute to rebuilding it. We love Brignoles and the friends who live there," they highlighted.
According to CNN figures, the fire in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region remains uncontained by the authorities and is four times larger than that of Paris.
For its part, the Gironde area recorded a fire that caused the evacuation of 224,000 residents and high temperatures that reached almost 40 ° C (104 ° F).
According to statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, more than 160,000 hectares have burned and the fire season has not yet ended.
"We must understand that we are facing a completely unprecedented forest fire. The situation we face today is the most severe we have ever recorded," he recently commented.
