Fang Cheng Bao still has a short time on the market, but it is already beginning to attract attention with a range of vehicles that continues to grow. The firm, belonging to the BYD group, is now preparing an important step with the development of its first electric sedan, a model that seeks to stand out for its great autonomy and a level of performance that targets the highest segment.

The most recent information came thanks to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), the body that published the first official specifications of the so-called Formula S. The data reveals that the sedan could reach up to 900 kilometers of autonomy under the CLTC homologation cycle, a figure that places it among the electric models with the longest range announced so far.

Along with the sedan, a second variant with a family body also appeared, called Formula S GT, which maintains much of the technology of the main model, although it is committed to offering greater space for occupants and luggage.

A large sedan

The Formula S was developed to compete in the executive sedan segment. Its body measures 5,060 millimeters long, 1,967 millimeters wide and 1,483 millimeters high, while the wheelbase reaches 2,960 millimeters.

Depending on the configuration chosen, the weight of the vehicle varies between 1,999 and 2,250 kilograms, mainly due to the size of the battery and the level of equipment.

The entry-level version uses a single electric motor located on the rear axle that develops 245 kW, equivalent to 333 horsepower. This mechanism works together with an LFP battery manufactured by FinDreams and allows up to 720 kilometers of autonomy to be certified under the CLTC cycle.

The most ambitious version reaches up to 900 kilometers

The big novelty of the range will be a variant with greater autonomy. In this case, the engine increases its performance to 300 kW, that is, about 408 horsepower.

This configuration incorporates a 92,093 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, also developed by FinDreams. Thanks to this set, the Formula S can offer an approved autonomy that ranges between 830 and 900 kilometers, depending on the equipment selected.

In addition, all these versions will be compatible with ultra-fast charging systems, a feature designed to considerably reduce recharging times.

The family will also grow with a future all-wheel drive variant equipped with two electric motors. According to the information provided by the Chinese authorities, it will develop a combined power of 490 kW, equivalent to 666 horsepower.

The Formula S GT will be the alternative for those looking for greater load capacity without giving up performance. It retains the wheelbase of the sedan, although its length is slightly reduced to 5,025 millimeters.

This version will use the 92,093 kWh battery and can be chosen with two mechanical configurations. The rear-wheel drive option will deliver 300 kW and offer between 800 and 850 kilometers of CLTC range. For its part, the all-wheel drive variant will reach 490 kW of power and reduce its range to around 730 kilometers to favor more sporty behavior.

For now, BYD has not confirmed the price or the markets where it will be available. What does seem clear is that, after their debut in China, both the Formula S and the Formula S GT could later arrive in other countries under the Denza brand, although there is still no official date for that possible launch.
