What the house where Elon Musk lives is like and what you can buy for $895 a month
This is the house linked to Elon Musk when he lives in the SpaceX complex in Texas and which it is estimated you could buy with just $895 a month
Buying an “affordable” home is around $1 million in several cities in the United States, according to a recent Zillow analysis. Depending on the down payment, that would mean a monthly payment of thousands of dollars on a traditional mortgage. However, believe it or not, Elon Musk lives in a small house in Texas that you could pay for around $895 a month.
Musk has just achieved the status of being the world's first billionaire after SpaceX went public. Much of his daily life takes place near the company's facilities in Texas. Do you know where he lives? In a small house in Boca Chica, as reported by Fortune.
The home, which Musk uses as a guest house in the area, is part of the developments of Boxabl, a company founded in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2017 by Paolo and Galiano Tiramani. The company specializes in the mass manufacturing of prefabricated, foldable, modern-design homes, with the goal of offering more affordable housing options in a market where housing prices continue to rise.
The company's best-known offering is the Casita Studio, a tiny home of approximately 391 square feet. Its compact design includes a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom in a single functional space. Unlike many traditional small homes, one of its biggest attractions is that it incorporates full-size appliances, full closets, modern countertops, and configurable LED lighting.
The approximate price of the Casita Studio is around $60,000. According to the company's estimates, this can translate into monthly payments close to $895, a figure considerably lower than the average mortgage in the United States, which recently exceeded $2,000 per month.
Another aspect that has driven interest in these homes is that they arrive practically ready to live in. Boxabl takes care of much of the process, including engineering plans, permit management, land preparation, foundations and connection to basic services such as water, drainage and electricity.
The structure is also designed to meet standards for resistance to wind, seismic activity and energy efficiency. In addition, it has large windows and doors, as well as high ceilings that help maximize the feeling of spaciousness and the entry of natural light.
Once the order is placed, construction is typically completed in approximately two months. The house is then transported to the installation site and can be deployed in around an hour, being ready for use almost immediately.
The popularity of this type of construction continues to grow in different regions of the United States. Boxabl claims to have built more than 700 casitas to date and believes that they can represent an opportunity for owners looking to generate additional income by renting a secondary home on their land.
What is Elon Musk's lifestyle like in a compact home?
“There is no food in the refrigerator,” shared Maye Musk, the businessman's mother, in a publication made on X in March of this year. "The garage where I slept is on the right. The shower only has one towel, so I left it with Elon. I didn't care. When I was a kid, I spent three weeks in the Kalahari Desert without showering."
