United States authorities maintain open investigations against at least two acting Mexican governors, in addition to the already known processes against former Sinaloa officials and politicians.

According to information published by the Los Angeles Times, the investigations would reach the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, and the president of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal.

According to the aforementioned media, the US government has intensified its strategy against alleged corruption and political protection networks linked to drug trafficking.

The offensive occurs after federal prosecutors in New York filed charges against former Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya and other former Sinaloa officials for alleged ties to criminal organizations.

To date, no formal accusations or court orders have been released against either governor. The allegations derive from journalistic reports and versions of files under development within US bodies.

Since the investigation against Rubén Rocha was announced, the Mexican government has maintained that any accusation must be supported by evidence and follow the corresponding institutional channels.

Meanwhile, US authorities have reiterated their intention to deepen investigations related to alleged corruption and organized crime structures in Mexico.
