Iran claims it attacked a ship linked to the US after an offensive against an oil tanker in Hormuz
The Revolutionary Guard assures that it responded to a US military action near the strait
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said this Wednesday that it attacked a United States ship in response to a previous offensive by the North American country against an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, in a new round of offensive that both parties accuse each other of initiating.
"Last night, the aggressor US Army attacked an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz with an aerial projectile, damaging the engine room. In response (...), the Panaya ship, belonging to the US Zionist enemy, was attacked with naval missiles," the IRGC said in a statement collected by the Tasnim agency, linked to the elite military body.
The US Central Command (Centcom) reported on Tuesday that it fired a missile at the engine room of an unloaded tanker flying the Botswana flag, which was sailing towards the island of Kharg, Iran's main oil port, within the framework of the current maritime blockade, after the ship ignored "repeated warnings."
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also reported a US attack against one of its communications towers, located on the island of Qeshm, in an offensive confirmed by Centcom.
The US military command said it attacked this military ground control station after Iran launched ballistic missiles at neighboring countries, including Kuwait and Bahrain, without any hitting their targets.
The IRGC, for its part, stated that it launched missile and drone attacks against a US air base and helicopters “located in a country in the region”, as well as against the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet, located in Bahrain, in response to the attack on the Qeshm communications tower.
Centcom assured in X that neither the air base nor the headquarters of its Fifth Fleet were hit.
The new attacks come after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, denied on social networks that negotiations with Iran were suspended, as Iranian media had stated.
