Content creator MrBeast, who has more than 500 million subscribers on YouTube, brought together several sports and entertainment stars to make the dream of 100 children diagnosed with cancer come true. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and basketball player LeBron James are two of the personalities who joined the initiative.
The charity campaign led by the influencer became possible thanks to the alliance of four associations: the Beast Philanthropy (the celebrity's charity), the organization Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C), the biopharmaceutical company Amgen and the St. Baldrick's Foundation, whose main objective is childhood cancer research.
“More than 105,000 children around the world lose their lives each year to cancer, and we are working to change that,” said MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson.
This initiative was documented through the video titled “We Helped 100 Kids Fight Cancer”, published on YouTube and featuring celebrities such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and LeBron James.
The latter did his part for the cause by surprising with his presence six children from St. Baldrick's, and other pediatric cancer survivors, with whom he lived on the basketball court of the “I PROMISE School” in Akron, Ohio, operated by his LeBron James Family foundation.
“It was an honor to share the court with them, and even better to share our space and create incredible memories with their families (…) We wanted them to know that they are real-life superheroes,” declared the NBA star.
Another special moment within the video shows three children at the Aulani resort in Hawaii while they attend the premiere of the live-action movie “Moana”, where they had the opportunity to spend time with one of its protagonists, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Some personalities who also joined the cause were: IShowSpeed, KSI, LaurenZSide, Sam and Colby, the influencer Dr. Mike and the musical group Stray Kids, which starred in a presentation and coexistence with several followers, including a child named Ezra.
In addition to making the dream of 100 children a reality, MrBeast's initiative seeks to finance a new team of scientists who make up the so-called “SU2C Pediatric Cancer Dream Team” and thus be able to accelerate the development of pediatric treatments.
To make it possible, the influencer announced that he, Amgen and St. Baldrick's will make a joint donation valued at $6.5 million dollars. For its part, the latter organization committed to raising an additional $1.5 million.
