Raúl de Molina, host of Univision's “El Gordo y la Flaca,” broke his silence about a condition he has been dealing with for several years: hearing loss.
During the most recent broadcast of the entertainment program, the host spoke like never before about the deterioration of his hearing ability, describing the episodes that led him to seek professional help.
“I don't have good news because I went to the doctor, who I haven't seen for four years, and he tells me that I have lost 80-odd percent of what I hear,” he commented to the public. “I only have 20% of this left and of this I have lost 70 or so, so in one ear I have 18% left and in the other I have, I don't know, like 10%,” he explained.
According to the communicator, this deterioration has become more noticeable in recent years and has affected his interaction with people around him.
“It has gotten worse in recent years,” he said. "That's why my wife often says: 'They're yelling at you here at the airport and you don't hear people (...) If you talk to me normally, you don't have to yell at me, I hear perfectly well when you're next to me talking to me normally."
Regarding the possible treatment to stop the evolution of his hearing loss, Raúl de Molina commented that his medical team recommends that he undergo surgery to place an implant. However, he has not yet decided whether he will undergo said surgical procedure.
“It's like something they put inside your ear and then they put a device on the outside so you can hear better, but that is only approved if you have lost as much hearing in both ears as I have,” he concluded.
