Salary is no longer the only factor that defines job satisfaction for many workers in the United States. Amid record levels of burnout and growing concerns about work-life balance, employees are placing greater importance on the purpose of their work, internal communication and the work environment.
An analysis carried out by the employee experience platform Blink identified which professions are where workers report higher levels of happiness, taking into account factors such as satisfaction, sense of purpose, stress and well-being within their activities.
To prepare the ranking, Blink analyzed 100 of the most in-demand jobs in the United States based on data from the US Time Use Survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The results were converted to a scale from 0 to 100 and combined different indicators to calculate an overall work happiness score.
Airplane pilots, the job with the greatest job happiness
Airline pilots and flight engineers ranked first in the study, with an overall happiness rating of 94.84%.
Although the profession involves high levels of pressure and responsibility, workers in this sector reported a positive perception of their activity, with a level of work commitment of 92.3%.
The study also noted that these employees face high levels of stress, at 63.6%, due to the physical and operational demands of the position. However, the financial benefits and professional satisfaction seem to outweigh these challenges.
Additionally, this career had the highest average annual salary among the top-rated occupations, at $219,140 per year.
Marketing managers take second place
In second position were marketing managers, who achieved an overall happiness score of 86.30%.
This group stood out for the positive perception about their work environment, with an index of 99.1% in favorable feeling towards their work, one of the highest figures recorded in the analysis.
After these professions, the ranking included financial managers, pharmacists, computer hardware engineers and other profiles related to specialized areas.

Workers are less willing to change jobs
The analysis also coincides with a broader trend in the US labor market: Although dissatisfaction with some aspects of employment has increased, many people are reducing their intention to change jobs.
Recent data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York shows that the probability of changing employers fell 1.4 percentage points to 9.7%, the lowest level since March 2021.
The decline was steepest among workers without a college degree.
At the same time, levels of satisfaction with different aspects of work registered declines. The valuation of salary fell 3.3 percentage points, satisfaction with non-salary benefits decreased 0.6 points and the perception of promotion opportunities fell 3.1 points.
The data reflects that, although remuneration continues to be a key element for employees, factors such as the work environment, stability, recognition and professional purpose have increasing weight when evaluating a job.
