Ryan Reynolds, considered one of the highest-grossing celebrities in Hollywood, has opened up like never before about the near-death experience he experienced during his adolescence and that could have deprived the world of his talent.

In an emotional talk with his friend and colleague Rob Mac for GQ magazine, the Canadian recalled the details of the serious accident he suffered when he was just 18 years old, as a result of the recklessness of a drunk driver.

According to Reynolds' testimony, he was hit by a driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol in his native Vancouver. Ironically, the incident occurred after making a conscious decision not to drive after a night of fun at a bar.

"When I was 18, I left a bar and I had had a beer (...) I thought: 'You know what? I'm not going to drive anywhere. Even if I'm four blocks from home, there's no way,'" the famous man explained.

What a surprise he got when he was the target of a person who made a decision opposite to his: “Instead, I turned around, started to cross the street and was hit by a drunk driver,” he said.

Ryan Reynolds indicated that the injuries he suffered from the accident led him to be hospitalized for a month: "I broke all the bones on my left side. He hit me so hard that his car was useless," he said.

Despite this bitter experience, Reynolds managed to recover and, as the years went by, venture into making action films that required arduous physical preparation that, at first, worried him.

"I really like physicality in movies. I think it's important to do as much of that yourself as possible. But I step aside when there's something that's too dangerous and there's a trained professional ready to do it," he concluded.

Currently, Ryan Reynolds is one of the most influential actors of his generation and throughout his career he has carried out projects such as “Deadpool”, “Mayday”, “Spirited” and “The Adam Project”, to name a few.
