Central team will visit northeastern states
The Home Minister said that an inter-ministerial central team would visit the flood-affected areas of
Assam and Meghalaya to assess the damage. He also said that after the pre-flood phase, an inter-ministerial central team visited the affected areas of
Assam from May 26 to 29.
43 lakh people affected by floods
The flood situation in
Assam remained grim on Monday. About 43 lakh people have been affected by the floods in 33 out of 35 districts of the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the air-dropping of food and other relief materials in areas where there is heavy flooding. The death toll in the ongoing floods and landslides in the state rose to 73 on Monday. The dead included two police personnel, including the in-charge of a police station in Nagaon district, who had gone to help the stranded people but were washed away in the water. Their bodies were retrieved early Monday.
PM Modi assured help
Prime Minister
Narendra Modi had also called up the
Assam Chief Minister on Saturday to take stock of the situation and assured him of all possible help from the Centre. Meanwhile, Sarma held a digital meeting with state ministers, senior officials and deputy commissioners in districts to review the flood situation. He directed to give top priority to rescue and relief operations.
