Blockbuster signing in Mexico: Julian Carranza, the new gem from Europe
Carranza left Feyenoord to become the new star signing for Necaxa. The Argentine came from playing for Leicester City
Mexican soccer will have a new addition from Europe. Argentine Julian Carranza has arrived in Liga MX to strengthen Necaxa. The Argentine footballer arrives with considerable European experience.
“Power and a nose for goal at the service of the Rayos… Welcome to your new home, @carranzajuli21!”, Necaxa announced their new signing. The Argentine striker will wear the number 21 jersey for the Clausura 2026 tournament.
Julian Carranza belonged to Feyenoord of the Netherlands. However, the Dutch club had loaned the Argentine to Leicester City of England. Feyenoord recalled him and began negotiations with the Mexican club.
Reports indicate that Carranza was permanently transferred to Necaxa for $3.5 million. It is estimated that the South American striker signed a 4-year contract until December 2029. On paper, there would be an option for an additional season.
Brief stint in Europe
In July 2024, Julian Carranza left Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer to join Feyenoord of the Eredivisie. With the Dutch club, Carranza played 30 matches (1,128 minutes on the field), scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist.
At the start of this season, Carranza was loaned to Leicester City of the Championship. The Argentine striker didn't have much luck. Carranza left the club without scoring a goal in nine appearances for the English club.
Carranza was developed at Banfield in Argentina. The South American also played for Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union. At this last club, Carranza scored 43 goals and provided 20 assists (the best records of his career).
