David Benavídez all or nothing for the unification of the cruiserweight
The project of David Benavídez's team does not stop in the search for the WBC title at 200 pounds
The Mexican-American boxer's work team has defined a new strategic route in professional boxing. David Benavídez's primary objective is to face Noel Mikaelian, current holder of the 200-pound belt of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
This decision arises from the need to remain active while the outlook clears in other categories where the current champions already have agreed commitments.

The intention to move up to the cruiser division is not an improvised move. José Benavídez Sr., the boxer's father and trainer, explained in an interview with specialized media that they do not plan to wait idly for other important names to be free. “We know that right now Bivol has a fight on the horizon, so the goal and we are working to fight with the cruiser that the WBC has,” said the trainer, making it clear that David Benavídez's immediate focus is the belt that Mikaelian holds.
Unification plans and great challenges on the horizon
The sports project does not stop in the search for the WBC title at 200 pounds. Once the fight with Mikaelian is finalized, the team envisions an agenda full of challenges against the elite of world boxing.
The outlined plan includes names of the stature of Artur Beterbiev and Jai Opetaia, who appear as logical objectives in the process of consolidating David Benavídez in the higher divisions.
Even the planning of the “Mexican Monster” extends to the long term, visualizing a possible confrontation against Oleksandr Usyk in a period of two years. José Benavídez Sr. explained that after overcoming the challenges at cruiserweight, they will look for the opportunity to face the Ukrainian when they manage to gain a little more weight. According to the coach, they fully trust their son's technical abilities, ensuring that “there is no fighter with the speed he has, with defense,” which would be his main advantage against physically larger rivals.
The road to boxing's star dates
Currently, negotiations are focused on establishing a date and official venue for the clash against the Armenian Mikaelian.
David Benavídez's team seeks to take advantage of the most important media spaces of the year, such as the weekend of May 5 in Las Vegas.
The camp's priority is to first secure the unification contract before confirming the exact day of his return to the ring, thus maintaining pressure on international organizations.
Although the change in category represents a considerable physical challenge, the coaching staff maintains that the levels of preparation will make a difference in the ring. “The fighters I just mentioned are super difficult, but I think there are levels to this,” said David Benavídez's father when referring to the competition.
In this way, the boxer positions himself in a privileged situation, seeking to make history by conquering a new division before resuming his pending accounts at 175 pounds.
