Gianni Infantino also joined in the praise for Memo Ochoa
The FIFA president highlighted the great achievement that Memo Ochoa made in the game with Czechia, where the Mexican fans surrendered to the Aztec goalkeeper
The tribute that the Mexican fans paid to Memo Ochoa in the nearly 18 minutes he played against the Czech Republic generated praise, both from the Aztec fans and from other soccer personalities, such as the president of FIFA, the Swiss Gianni Infantino, who highlighted the Mexican goalkeeper's six World Cup victories.
After Memo was cheered and exalted by the Mexican fans who praised the Tricolor goalkeeper's achievement of playing as a starter in the last four World Cups and being part of two more within the Mexican delegation to add six universal competitions in an international milestone alongside stars of the stature of the Argentine Lionel Messi and the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
Infantino on his Instagram account stated that: "What a great achievement, Guillermo Ochoa! Being part of six FIFA World Cups and having played in four of them is something you should be incredibly proud of. In addition, it was wonderful to see the reception that the Mexico City public gave him after coming on as a substitute against the Czech Republic.
“This achievement is a testimony to his quality, career and commitment to football, which will undoubtedly inspire others around the world,” highlighted the head of world football for a career of Memo Ochoa that includes 12 matches played in World Cups, but the last of them at the Azteca Stadium full of adrenaline for what he represented in his 22-year career.
Because without a doubt having completed a stage that included the World Cups in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, Qatar 2022 and now the United States, Mexico and Canada 2026, is something that does not happen every day and where Memo gave a great example of resilience after everything he experienced in his first two world competitions.
Because no one can deny that Memo Ochoa made a name for himself in the Tricolor in the World Cups, since first in Germany 2006 he was called up as the third goalkeeper behind Oswaldo Sánchez and Jesús Corona, while in South Africa 2010 with Javier Aguirre he emerged as a starter and ended up being a substitute for Óscar Pérez, to later take the starting position in the next three World Cups and now in 2026 receive a well-deserved tribute.
