Salvador Pérez equals a historical record of home runs for a Latino in the Major Leagues
The Venezuelan player hit his 311th home run in his career. Salvador Pérez equaled Iván Rodríguez's record as the Latin catcher with the most home runs in MLB
This Wednesday, Venezuelan catcher Salvador Pérez wrote another golden page in his brilliant career in the Major Leagues by hitting the 311th home run of his career and tying Puerto Rican Iván Rodríguez as the Latin catcher with the most home runs in the history of the Major Leagues.
The hit, in addition to being his eighth of the 2026 season, left “Salvy” just one home run away from soloing a record that for years seemed unattainable and that belonged to one of the immortals of Major League baseball.
The captain of the Kansas City Royals achieved the historic homecoming blow against the Boston Red Sox and once again carried the offensive weight of his team by finishing the day 4-3, with a run scored and an RBI.
The magnitude of the achievement becomes even greater when comparing the time it took both receivers to reach the figure. Rodríguez accumulated his 311 home runs over 21 seasons in the majors, while Pérez reached the same number in just his 15th season.
Pérez also continues to climb positions among the top Venezuelan home run hitters of all time. The all-time list is headed by Miguel Cabrera with 511 home runs, followed by Andrés Galarraga with 399, Eugenio Suárez—currently on the injured list—with 328 and Magglio Ordóñez with 294.
Salvador Pérez's best season in the home run department came in 2021, when he hit 48 home runs in 161 games, also equaling the Kansas City Royals' all-time record for a season. In 2025 he once again demonstrated his offensive validity by hitting 30 home runs, the second highest number of his career.
In the current season, the Venezuelan receiver maintains a discreet offensive line, but continues to produce power with the wood and consolidate his historical legacy within the organization.
Pérez, who has been champion of the 2026 World Baseball Classic with the Venezuelan national team, five-time silver bat and gold glove, World Series champion in 2015 and nine appearances in the All-Star Games, continues to strengthen his candidacy towards a future induction into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.
Likewise, “Salvy” approaches another legendary brand within the Royals. With his 311 four-base hits, he was just seven away from passing George Brett as the leading home run hitter in franchise history.
Brett closed his emblematic career with 317 home runs, all connected with the Kansas City uniform, a record that remained intact for decades and that now seriously threatens the Venezuelan's offensive power.
If he maintains the offensive pace shown in recent campaigns, Salvador Pérez could take over both historical records before the end of the 2026 season.
