Vaquero Navarrete and Sugar Nunez already have a date and venue to fight
It was learned that the Footprint Center will be the venue where Vaquero Navarrete and Sugar Nunez will unify the 130-pound belts
Emanuel 'Vaquero' Navarrete and Eduardo 'Sugar' Nunez, super featherweight champions of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) -respectively-, they will face each other on March 7 in Phoenix, Arizona.
A publication in The Ring magazine revealed that the Footprint Center will be the venue where Vaquero Navarrete and Sugar Nunez will unify the 130-pound titles.
“According to The Ring, the Mexican champions will face off on March 7 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. DAZN will broadcast their 12-round bout live for the WBO (Navarrete) and IBF (Nunez) super featherweight titles,” it reported.
Previously, journalist Inaky Arzate had reported that the two Mexicans would face off on January 24, but this date changed according to The Ring magazine.
Sugar Nunez defeated Pitufo Diaz last September by unanimous decision with scores of 117-109, 117-109, and 116-110.
After the fight, Vaquero Navarrete entered the ring to challenge his compatriot, who accepted, and the two had their first face-off.
Vaquero Navarrete comes from a controversial bout against Charly Suarez last May, a fight that ended with a unanimous decision victory for the Mexican in the eighth round after the doctor stopped the fight due to a cut above the champion's eye.
After the California Commission determined that the cut was caused by a punch from Suarez, his victory was overturned and changed to a No Contest, but he retained the belt. The WBO ordered an immediate rematch with the Filipino, but now the Mexican and Sugar Nunez have agreed to a rematch.
Emanuel 'Vaquero' Navarrete, 30, retained his WBO super featherweight championship despite the California Commission's decision. The Mexican three-division champion has a record of 40 wins (33 by knockout), two losses, one draw, and one no contest. Meanwhile, Eduardo 'Sugar' Nunez, 28, defended his IBF title against Pitufo Diaz and wants to unify with Navarrete. The Mexican has a record of 29 wins (27 by knockout) and one loss in his professional career.
