Francisco Iturbide was appointed this Friday, July 24, as the new president of Liga MX. The announcement was made at a press conference by Mikel Arriola, president-commissioner of the Mexican Football Federation, who presented a new corporate administration model that will seek to enhance the operation of the administrative entity of the First Division in Mexico.

The new administrative scheme will consist of four committees: Sports, Commercial, Ethics and Good Governance, Investment and Certification. Six league teams, Iturbide himself and a vice president of the area will be directly involved in these bodies. Arriola reported that the member clubs will be designated shortly, under the obligation to launch the committees as soon as possible and inform the rest of the members of the call dates.

According to Arriola, the objective of these four new vehicles is to mediate the economic interests involved and develop the league. Likewise, he highlighted that Iturbide's 15 years of experience within the organization—which he joined in 2015 in the administration chart—will be the key factor in finding success in this new model.

With this appointment, Iturbide completes a meteoric rise of approximately 16 years in national football. His career began as a player in the youth ranks of the Águilas del América, continued in Tecamachalco of the Premier League and in Alebrijes de Oaxaca in the defunct Liga de Ascenso MX, and then transitioned to different functional positions within the Liga MX.

The new manager will face a titanic task due to the historic struggle of interests between the most economically powerful clubs. Its main challenge will be to combine the perspectives of institutions such as América, Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Chivas, Monterrey, Santos Laguna and Tigres de la UANL under the same vision, preventing each from seeking individual advantages in this new administrative model.

Added to these challenges is the skepticism of a sector of the football environment, where he is strongly linked to the interests of Televisa due to his past as a player in the basic forces of Club América. Therefore, Iturbide must prioritize autonomy in his management to mitigate these accusations and consolidate total legitimacy at the head of Liga MX.
