Kentucky woman causes more than $12,000 in damage to her ex-boyfriend car, and her smiling police photo goes viral
Stephanie Carlquist, 31, a pregnant Kentucky resident, partially admitted to the facts and said she acted because she was stressed
Kentucky police accuse Stephanie Carlquist, 31, of causing an estimated $12,464 in damage to her ex-boyfriend's car between July 6 and 20.
According to a criminal complaint cited by Fox News, Carlquist poured salt in the engine, poured glitter in the vents, slashed a tire, broke the rearview mirror and windshield, and smashed the radio screen.
The vehicle, which also belonged to the ex-boyfriend’s mother, was declared “beyond repair” and a total loss by a Goodyear auto body shop.
According to the court document, Carlquist admitted to some of the damage in an email to his ex-boyfriend’s mother: “All I did was put glitter in the vents and damaged the windshield. Oh, and the tire,” he wrote, while denying any damage to the engine.
The now-pregnant woman explained that she was “stressed out” when she committed the vandalism. He even offered to pay for the damages and release his own vehicle to the victim.
The Attempt at Mediation
Carlquist’s father reportedly attempted to intervene to prevent his daughter from facing serious charges.
In a text message to the defendant’s ex-boyfriend, he said, “I’m sure you two can work out a better solution than Stephanie taking a felony charge so no one gets hurt again.”
Carlquist was charged with first-degree criminal damage to property, a felony in Kentucky. She posted $12,000 bail and was released pending her next court hearing.
