Once again, the threat of
cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is looming large in the coastal areas of the country. If the Meteorological Department is to be believed, Biperjoy can take an even more terrifying form today. Thereafter, it is likely to become a severe
cyclonic storm. The effect of this storm can be seen in many coastal areas. During this, there is a possibility of storm and heavy rain. The
Indian Meteorological Department (
IMD) says that it will move from north to northwest in the next two days. On the other hand, the weather forecast states that heatwave conditions will prevail in seven states.
Tithal beach closed till 14 june
At the same time, high waves were seen at Tithal beach located on the Arabian Sea coast of Valsad ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy. Taking precautions, the Valsad administration has closed the Tithal beach for tourists after the Meteorological Department's warning. Valsad Tehsildar TC Patel said that fishermen are strictly prohibited from going near the sea. If required, people in Dariya Kanthan village will be shifted if needed and shelters have been made for them. At the same time, Tithal Beach has been closed for tourists till June 14.
Chance of heavy rain
According to
IMD, Biparjoy is moving north-northeastwards. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of rain in the South
Indian region in the next four days. While
Kerala and Coastal
Karnataka are likely to receive heavy rains till Monday, Lakshadweep will see rain till Sunday. Besides this, eight districts of
Kerala were put on yellow alert on Friday. These districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur. On the other hand, Vellore district received heavy rains with strong winds on Friday, hailstorm was also recorded at some places. According to the
Chennai Regional Meteorological Center Vellore, 5.5 cm of rain has been recorded.
Monsoon arrived seven days late
The
IMD said the monsoon reached the southern
Indian state on Thursday, seven days behind schedule. The announcement by the Meteorological Department comes at a time when scientists have warned that the weather system is likely to remain weak to begin with, with slow progress over the peninsula due to Cyclone Biparjoy. According to
IMD Director General M Mohapatra, rains are expected to pick up pace only after June 15.
Issuing a weather forecast till the middle of next week, the weather office said that apart from south
India, the Northeast will also receive
heavy rainfall till Wednesday. Heavy rain will continue at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan
West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday, with very heavy rain expected over the next two days.
Heat wave warning in seven states
The weather forecast states that heat wave conditions will prevail in seven states. Heat wave conditions will continue in some parts of
Bihar till Tuesday. At the same time, the heat wave will continue in Gangetic
West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand till Monday.
Uttar Pradesh will face heat wave conditions till Sunday. Meanwhile, Sub-Himalayan
West Bengal and Sikkim and parts of
Andhra Pradesh are likely to witness similar conditions till Saturday.
