Hearing on January 9 in the case of death due to poisonous liquor in Bihar, suspended IAS Pooja Singhal got bail

Suspended woman IAS officer Pooja Singhal of Jharkhand has got interim bail for one month from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court will hear on January 9 a petition seeking an independent probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the hooch tragedy that took place in Bihar last month. The petition has also sought a direction to the state government to pay adequate compensation to the families of the victims. Let us tell you that the tragedy happened in Saran district, where at least 30 people lost their lives due to the consumption of illegal liquor. 

The matter was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. The bench told advocate Pawan Prakash Pathak, who mentioned the matter, that it would be heard on January 9.

Suspended Jharkhand IAS officer Pooja Singhal gets bail

Jharkhand's suspended woman IAS officer Pooja Singhal got interim bail for one month from the Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 3). He got this bail on medical grounds. Singhal got this interim bail seven months and 23 days after his arrest. Explain that Pooja Singhal, a 2000 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on May 11. He has a serious allegation of alleged irregularities in the MNREGA scheme.

Got bail to take care of sick daughter

The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Pooja Singhal for a month to look after her ailing daughter. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka also directed the Enforcement Directorate to respond to Singhal's main bail plea within three weeks. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the ED, said the petition is misconceived and has no merit. The law officer said that I would be the last person to oppose such arguments.

Ban on going to Ranchi for the time being 

The apex court, which has now listed the suspended IAS officer's petition for hearing on February 6. During the hearing, the top court has also imposed certain conditions, including that she will not go to Ranchi till the court case is listed for hearing in the city.

Pooja Singhal in custody since May 

11 Pooja Singhal has been in custody since May 11 following raids on properties linked to her. The ED has charged Singhal, former secretary of the state mines department, with money laundering and said his team has seized over Rs 36 crore in cash linked to alleged illegal mining in two separate money laundering probes.
