“The Devil Wears Prada 2” breaks historical record after grossing $676 million at the box office
The film starring Anne Hathaway was crowned one of the most successful sequels in history, tripling its production cost in profits.
Just over a month after its release in theaters, the film “The Devil Wears Prada 2” remains one of the most successful releases of 2026. Proof of this is the multimillion-dollar figure it managed to raise worldwide and that has made it surpass a historical milestone comparable to the first installment of the saga.
According to the Variety portal, the film starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep has grossed $676 million at the box office after its premiere on May 1.
Along with this high figure, is added the collection recorded by the original 2004 film, which is around $326 million dollars. In total, the Disney franchise managed to surpass the $1 billion mark at the box office, which represents an important milestone for two films of this genre.
Public acceptance for this sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” was evident from its first weekend in theaters around the world. And in just 48 hours it obtained almost triple the profits of its predecessor: $77 million dollars in North America and another $233 million worldwide.
But these figures have only grown like crazy, since since then, of the total collection figure, $217 million dollars correspond to North America and $458 million dollars abroad.
This is how “The Devil Wears Prada 2”, directed by David Frankel and written by screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, obtained the title of the fourth highest-grossing film in the United States, the third internationally and the fourth worldwide to date, reported the Variety portal.
These figures are even more surprising after taking into account that Disney invested $100 million in production and $80 million in marketing, obtaining almost four times its production cost in profits.
What is the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” about?
Twenty years after their performances as “Miranda,” “Andy,” “Emily” and “Nigel,” Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the streets of New York City and the offices of “Runway” magazine.
However, the great Miranda Presley faces the decline of the iconic magazine in the face of the digital age and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), her former assistant turned into a powerful luxury executive who controls advertising. Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) joins this explosive competition as mediator of the conflict.
The film reunites the original cast with director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces a new cast of characters, including: Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen and B.J. Novak.
