Subaru Forester 2025: the hybrid that challenges the RAV4
Renewed inside and out, this non-plug-in hybrid retains the off-road essence of the Japanese brand, opting for permanent all-wheel drive
Hybrid SUVs tend to proliferate with more urban than adventurous approaches, and that's why Subaru has decided to go its own way with the presentation of the new Forester 2025.

Thus, the Japanese brand keeps intact its philosophy of resistance, all-wheel drive and mechanical reliability, without giving in to the impulse to turn its flagship model into just another crossover.

The new generation of the Forester is not a drastic change, but rather a profound evolution that prioritizes functionality, balanced performance and a very clear proposition: to continue being the family SUV with the best off-road capabilities on the market. And all this, now with a hybrid system under the hood.
An SUV built to last
Unlike other brands that have launched themselves fully into total electrification or more expensive plug-in solutions, Subaru has opted for a more conservative but proven approach: a self-charging hybrid system, that is, without a plug.
It is the same technology already seen in the Subaru Crosstrek, but applied here to a larger, more robust model with a clear multipurpose vocation.
The new 2025 Forester combines a 2.0-liter boxer gasoline engine with a small 17-horsepower electric motor, offering a combined power of 136 horsepower.
The battery, with a capacity of 0.6 kWh, does not allow 100% electric driving, but it does provide energy backup in certain acceleration or cruising phases.
Dimensions and design with purpose
This The Forester measures 4.67 meters in length, a slight increase compared to the previous generation. This increase translates into improved interior space without compromising maneuverability.
In terms of design, the most notable change is at the front, where the model adopts a more modern and robust look, with slimmer headlights and a redesigned grille that underlines its adventurous character.
Although Subaru presents it as a new generation, in practice it is a profound update, which maintains the basic platform of the previous model but improves the aesthetics and several technical elements.
The trunk remains practically intact, with almost 510 liters of capacity, making it ideal for families and weekend getaways.
Digital cabin, without giving up the classic
Behind the doors, the 2025 Forester does not seek to impress with giant screens or an extremely minimalist design. Instead, it offers a mixed approach: instrumentation with analog dials combined with an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen for the infotainment system. A balance between tradition and modernity.
The multimedia system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes multiple USB ports, wireless connectivity, and improved voice commands. In addition, visibility remains one of its greatest strengths thanks to a design with wide windows and thin pillars.
Mechanics and consumption: balance above all
Although hybrid technology helps reduce consumption, the 2025 Forester maintains an average of 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers, somewhat high when compared to some urban rivals.
However, there is a clear reason behind this figure: the permanent all-wheel drive system, an unmistakable Subaru hallmark.
The vehicle's weight, close to 1,800 kg, also influences this consumption. But in return, the Forester offers stability, safety, and driving confidence, even on difficult surfaces.
A direct rival to the Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 is undoubtedly the benchmark when it comes to hybrid SUVs. However, the new Forester's proposition makes it a direct rival for those looking for an alternative with real all-wheel drive and a drive more focused on adventure than absolute efficiency.
Subaru is targeting the type of customer who not only wants an SUV for the city, but who will actually use it off the asphalt. And in that area, the Forester stands out without much competition.
There is no official price for the US market yet, but it is estimated that the new 2025 Subaru Forester will be sold with an entry price around $31,000, with the most equipped versions around $38,000. That puts it in a competitive range against models like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the Honda CR-V Hybrid, and the Mazda CX-50.
