10,000 units in just one month. That's the number the BYD Da Tang, also known as Tang L, achieved after officially starting sales in China. The data is striking not only because of the speed with which the vehicles are being delivered, but because we are talking about the brand's largest and most expensive electric SUV within this family.

BYD put the model on sale on June 17 with four different configurations. The initial response had already been overwhelming during its reservation stage, when it accumulated more than 150,000 orders since its presentation at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show.

Now, the company is converting much of that interest into actual deliveries and is positioning the Da Tang as the first D-segment SUV within the Dynasty family.
A battery prepared to travel long distances
The size of the Da Tang is not its only argument. BYD wanted this SUV to also stand out for its electrical capabilities and for this purpose it debuted the second generation of its Blade battery.
With it, the model can reach up to 950 kilometers of all-electric autonomy under the CTLC homologation cycle. The figure places it among the production vehicles with the greatest range within its category.
It also incorporates a 1,000-volt electrical architecture, becoming the first BYD to use this configuration. The system is prepared to take advantage of the brand's Flash Charging technology, which allows you to go from 10% to 97% battery in just nine minutes.
For an SUV of these dimensions, this ability to quickly regain autonomy can become one of its most interesting arguments for long trips.
An SUV that does not try to go unnoticed
The Da Tang measures 5,263 meters long, 1,999 meters wide without mirrors and 1.79 meters high. The wheelbase reaches 3.13 meters, so we are looking at a vehicle that needs a lot of space even before talking about its cabin.
That size is used with a configuration of seven passengers distributed in three rows under a 2 2 3 scheme. The proposal is clearly aimed at families who need space, but also at those looking for a large electric SUV with considerable technological equipment.
A LiDAR sensor appears on the roof that works together with the God's Eye 5.0 driving assistance system. This technology is designed to offer assistance functions both in the city and on the highway.
The price completely changes the story
One of the reasons why the success of the Da Tang is even more striking is its price. In China, the range starts at 239,900 yuan and goes up to 309,900 yuan in the most equipped version.
Those values are equivalent to approximately $31,200 and $40,200, respectively. For an electric SUV of these dimensions, with seven seats, a large-capacity battery and a 1,000-volt architecture, the proposal is especially competitive against higher-priced luxury models.
BYD celebrates success amid a difficult market
The Da Tang's good performance comes at a time when BYD is also facing some difficulties in its home market. In June, its registrations in China were 228,123 units, 22.02% less than during the same month of the previous year.
The panorama is also reflected in the global accumulated. During the first half of the year, BYD sold 1,808,511 vehicles worldwide, a figure that represents a drop of 15.72% compared to the same previous period.
Therefore, the 10,000 units delivered of the Da Tang become even more important. The SUV is not only showing that there is demand for large electric cars, but it is also achieving notable sales speed for a model that has only just hit the market.
