The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert following the voluntary recall of a limited batch of vegetarian breakfast burritos, after it was detected that they could contain soy and sausage not declared on the label.
Due to this, soy, one of the main food allergens, was also introduced without this ingredient appearing on the label.
Why did the FDA issue the alert?
The health agency explained that people with a severe allergy or sensitivity to soy could suffer a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these burritos. Although no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported so far, the FDA and the company decided to withdraw the products as a preventive measure to avoid risks to consumers.
Which burritos were recalled?
The measure applies only to products manufactured at the Charlotte, North Carolina, plant between July 9 and 12, 2026, with a best-before date of July 20, 2026.
How was the problem detected?
The investigation began after two customers reported finding sausage in burritos labeled as vegetarian.
The company confirmed that the accidental incorporation of that ingredient also caused the presence of soy, an allergen whose declaration on the label is mandatory to protect consumers with food allergies.
