Through a statement published on its official website, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of OCOOPA rechargeable hand warmers due to a serious risk of injury and burns.
According to details from the entity, the recall covers approximately 1.5 million lithium-ion battery heaters sold in various colors and double-sided designs that also have adjustable heat settings and a rigid plastic casing plus silicone cord, which had overheating in their batteries, creating a risk for their users.
So far, the product sold in retail chains such as Amazon, Walmart and its own online store Ocoopa.com and Ocoopa.net for prices between $15 and $60 has generated 1,480 reports about overheating, of which one was the death of an adult over 83 years of age in California, 350 have been burns and 15 were fires.
In this sense, the CPSC instructed users to discard the product or return it to the store where they purchased it for a refund.
In this case, consumers can contact OCOOPA Direct by email ocooparecalls@ocoopa.cc for a full refund which can be by gift card or original payment; To this end, it specified that affected customers must send a photo with the model number and batch number.
Finally, the CPSC warned consumers not to throw heaters directly into the trash, but rather into recycling bins, as defective lithium-ion batteries are a fire risk; Incidents involving these types of products can also be reported to SaferProducts.gov.
