Survey reveals that 60% of workers are not satisfied with their job: why
The advocacy group Jobs for the Future conducted research on the current labor market situation
In a research developed by the advocacy group Jobs for the Future, it mentioned that 60% of workers are not satisfied with their jobs and this is because many of these jobs do not meet their basic offers: fair salary, stable hours and professional growth.
The researchers indicated that, although official employment data only show numbers of hiring and unemployment, don't really offer a complete picture of the state of the labor market, including worker satisfaction in their jobs.
“Going into this work, we suspected that most Americans didn't have supporting jobs. This data confirms our suspicion: most American workers don't have quality jobs,” said Molly Blankenship, director of design and solutions delivery at Jobs for the Future, which also participated in the research.
To develop the analysis, workers from different companies, industries, and different areas were surveyed in order to obtain a more complete picture of the current state of the labor market.
Blankenship said that “we recognize that not only has the way we measure the economy not kept up with the way work and the economy are changing, but it has never been sufficient to allow us to understand what is happening under the hood of the economy and in the workforce, which is the engine of economic prosperity in the US,” he said.
A “quality” job
Now then, what makes a job classified as good or bad? Those surveyed mentioned several aspects that define a “quality” job, the first of which and the most important: a fair and stable salary.
Another characteristic is job security and among these is the fact that the worker can feel free in their job without discrimination or harassment. A predictable schedule and manageable workload also counts as a positive aspect, as well as the opportunities for growth and development according to the worker's skills.
The influence of technology
On the other hand, researchers from Jobs for the Future mentioned that there is a fear among employees that in the future they may be displaced by new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
Although it is not expected that the course of humanity is directed towards further development in this area, many companies will continue to rely on human labor to carry out certain activities, so the current use of advanced systems only seeks the optimization and growth of the companies that employ it.
