This Wednesday, July 29, the Federal Reserve (Fed), led by its president Kevin Warsh, together with the group of 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), in its fifth meeting of the year, announces through a press conference that interest rates remain unchanged, thus remaining in the range of 3.50% to 3.75% after a decision of 9-3 in favor.

The decision by the Fed's monetary policy regulators comes at a time of great political and economic tension, with an inflation rate that, although it fell from 4.2% in May to 3.5% last month, still remains high; In addition, some economists consider that inflation could skyrocket in the coming weeks.

But Americans are not only struggling with the high costs of inflation caused mainly this year by higher energy prices due to the conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, but also with high tariff rates and a labor market with a slow hiring rate.

Previous interest rate hikes, pauses and cuts

Kevin Warsh, who was confirmed by the Senate as the new president of the Federal Reserve on May 13, 2026, has been intransigent against inflation, ensuring that he will take it to the 2% objectives.
