Dakota Johnson faces one of the biggest challenges of her career: bringing acclaimed actress Marilyn Monroe to life in her new biographical film, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
“Flesh Impact” is the title of the film that will bring to the screen the key moments in the life of the iconic figure of American cinema on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.
"I have always been fascinated by Marilyn Monroe. When I was presented with the idea of a project to celebrate her centenary, I knew I wanted to collaborate to bring this story to the screen," said filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal in a conversation with Vanity Fair.
According to a statement released on social networks by the Genesis automotive brand, which was revealed as one of the investors in the production, Dakota Johnson will be in charge of playing Marilyn Monroe during the period of greatest fame in her role as an actress.
The first glimpse of the actress characterized as the icon of the 50s was given through Vanity Fair magazine. These images showed her wearing short, wavy platinum blonde hair, very much in the style of Monroe, accompanied by classic makeup and the Hollywood diva's characteristic mole.
Another of the postcards that gained relevance on social networks was the one starring the 93-year-old actress Ellen Burstyn. She will be in charge of interpreting a hypothetical version of Marilyn about the life she could have had had she not lost her life in August 1962.
In addition to Dakota Johnson and Ellen Burstyn, the cast of “Flesh Impact” includes personalities such as Sepideh Moafi (“The Pitt”) and Peter Sarsgaard.
Regarding the project, director Maggie Gyllenhaal clarified that it aims to show Marilyn Monroe “through a modern look that recovers her story.” And during the development of the story, the main axis was the question: “How would the actress's career have evolved if she had had several more decades of professional career?”
In this sense, he added: "I find her performance fascinating: strange, wild and very joyful, mixed with something terribly disturbing at the same time. I wondered what would have happened to her if she had had 60 years to live. What would she change in the work she would do now?"
The production detailed that the premiere of “Flesh Impact” is scheduled for this year, and will take place at the Venice International Film Festival, which will take place from September 2 to 12.
