Singer and actor Jared Leto faces a new series of accusations of criminal sexual conduct against four women when they were teenagers. According to a BBC documentary, the attacks occurred between 2002 and 2016, when the former “Thirty Seconds to Mars” vocalist was between 30 and 40 years old.
“Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret” is the name of the audiovisual piece that brings together the testimony of four women, Isabel, Alex, Clara and Etta, as well as images and stories from former collaborators that support them.
One of the victims accuses Jared Leto of having sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old, while another maintains that she had relations with the famous man in California when she was under the age of legal consent in that state.
“For almost my entire life I had thought that what happened was because I was a stupid girl… and that's why that bad thing happened to me,” she told the outlet.
A third victim, who reported being 19 years old at the time of the events, claimed to have been threatened by the artist with sexual assault. One woman even presented an alleged confidentiality agreement that she would have refused to sign at the time.
Within the public complaint, mention is made of a series of “strange and very sexual” calls when they were minors as part of the singer's 'modus operandi' between 2002 and 2016.
“This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it,” said one of the women who raised their voices against Leto.
In addition to the testimony of the victims, the BBC cites two former members of the “Thirty Seconds to Mars” staff who claim to have been uncomfortable with the way in which Jared Leto interacted with teenagers.
“Everyone thought that the age difference was too big,” says one of the former collaborators after detailing that the singer sometimes invited them to dressing rooms or even to his house.
In the midst of the commotion that this new wave of accusations has generated, Jared Leto's legal team has categorically rejected the allegations against him and maintains that it will seek to clarify the facts.
