DU Ragging: DU ragging victim underwent spinal cord operation, 22 students expelled so far, five arrested

Dibrugarh University Ragging Case: Four students of Dibrugarh University in Assam have been expelled for three years for allegedly ragging a junior. On the other hand, the spinal cord operation of the victim student was successful on Thursday. Anand Sarma, an M.Com first year student, last week jumped from the second floor of his hostel to escape the ragging being faced by his seniors. Due to this, there was a fracture in his hand and spine.
In the matter, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu tweeted, Dibrugarh University ragging victim Anand Sarma's surgery has been successfully done. Thanking the doctor and the private hospital where the procedure was done, the minister said the student is now feeling improved in good health. Meanwhile, the university on Monday expelled 22 students from the institute on charges of ragging. So far action has been taken against 21 students. The four students have been banned from taking admission in any institution across the country for the next three years.
Dibrugarh Additional Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia said that so far five students involved in the ragging incident have been arrested. Another person has been detained for giving shelter to the accused. Our search operation is on to nab the other accused. The Anti-Ragging Committee, in an emergency meeting on Wednesday evening, expelled the four students for a period of three years, debarring them from taking admission in any institution, Dibrugarh University said in a statement.
Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Jiten Hazarika said that three hostel wardens of 'Padmnath Gohain Baruah Chhatra Niwas', Divyajyoti Dutta, Abu Mustaq Hussain and Palash Dutta, have been suspended for not being able to stop the ragging incident in the hostel.
