The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made a big statement regarding the merger of the medical entrance examination NEET and engineering entrance examination JEE with the Central University Entrance Examination-Graduate (CUET). Due to which a big relief is expected for the students.

UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar said no formal decision has been taken yet to merge the medical entrance exam NEET and engineering entrance exam JEE with the Central University Entrance Examination-Graduate (CUET) and nothing will be imposed on the students.

Kumar's remarks came at a time when Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said two days ago that there are no plans to merge JEE and NEET with CUET for the next two years.

Earlier, the chairman of UGC had announced last month that Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) would be merged with CUET in future. Meanwhile, Kumar said, we have put forward the idea of ​​merging NEET and JEE with CUET so that it can be discussed among the various stakeholders. He said that no formal decision has been taken in this regard, nothing will be imposed from above on the students.

The President of the UGC said this while participating in a discussion on the topic of increasing competitiveness and bringing about a quality revolution in Indian higher education. He said, if a decision is taken then it should not affect the present students studying in class 11th and 12th. We should give them enough time. It cannot be implemented at least in the next two years. Kumar said that this would be done after adequate discussion and considering the views and suggestions received.
