55-year-old teacher in Georgia is arrested for sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy
Amanda Katz sexually assaulted 16-year-old student during several off-campus encounters between 2025 and 2026, police say
A Georgia woman identified as Amanda Katz, 55, a former Roswell High School teacher, was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student after an investigation revealed her secret sexual relations with a teenager, police said.
“The Roswell Police Department (RPD) has arrested and charged Amanda Katz, 55, a former teacher and administrative assistant at Roswell High School, with inappropriate sexual contact by an employee or officer,” the police department stated.
No details of the relationship were revealed.
In early 2026, the Richmond Police Department (RPD) received a complaint from the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services raising concerns about alleged misconduct between the two.
The 55-year-old teacher resigned while detectives investigated the allegations.
According to police, “that investigation determined that Katz sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student during several off-campus encounters between 2025 and 2026.”
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Katz, who was taken into custody. His bail was set at $25,000.
No additional details about the encounters or the case have been provided.
In Georgia, the term “inappropriate sexual contact by an employee or agent” refers to unlawful sexual contact involving a person in a position of authority or trust over the victim.
This charge is typically applied in settings such as schools, correctional facilities, or care institutions, and can carry felony penalties, including prison terms and registration as a sex offender.
Other similar incidents
This follows another incident in late May, when a teacher at an elite private school in Georgia was sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old student.
Sherri Maudlin, 61, a former teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy in Siloam, Georgia, pleaded guilty to statutory rape and inappropriate sexual contact with her former student for more than a year.
Prosecutors said Maudlin repeatedly sexually assaulted his student from January to December 2022 until June 2024, when investigators received a tip.
During the investigation into the Maudlin case, police said they also discovered that a second teacher, Bonnie Brown, 25, allegedly raped the same student at school.
Brown had been a student at Nathanael Greene Academy and was elected homecoming queen in 2016. The scandals shocked the Siloam community and led school officials to close the prestigious private school in March 2025.
Maudlin was sentenced this week after admitting in her testimony to having sexual relations with the teenage student, and received a sentence of 12 years in prison and a total of 25 years on probation.
