A Tennessee woman was arrested after authorities accused her of trying to drown one of her children in the pool of a home, an event that ended with the rescue of the minor by another adult present at the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Mikaylee Rae Beirne, 31, who faces a charge of aggravated child abuse and neglect for an incident that occurred on July 15.

A child alerted an adult about what was happening

Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton reported that deputies responded to a home on Cochran Road around 5:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance.

According to the investigation, Beirne was in the backyard pool with several minors, while another adult remained inside the house.

The authorities indicated that one of the children ran inside the house to warn that the woman was allegedly keeping another minor submerged under water.

An adult intervened to rescue the minor

The adult immediately walked out to the pool and demanded that Beirne let go of the child, but investigators said she refused.

Faced with this situation, the person physically intervened, pushed the woman away and managed to get the minor out of the water.

Another adult later arrived at the scene, who had a brief exchange with Beirne before officers arrived.

The woman left the home before authorities responded to the emergency.

The minor suffered minor injuries

The children were taken inside the house while emergency services responded to the scene.

The authorities reported that the minor had minor injuries and some bruises, although they did not detail his subsequent state of health.

Officers located Beirne shortly after the incident and proceeded to take her into custody.

She is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center, where she remains on $50,000 bail while the court process continues.
