A 65-year-old man survived being shot in the head after confronting two men who he told authorities ran over his cat with a car. The attack occurred Sunday night in Missouri and the alleged perpetrators remain at large.

According to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, the victim, whose identity has not been released, was initially treated at Atchison Hospital after the incident and later transported by helicopter to the University of Kansas Medical Center (KU Medical Center), where he received treatment for the severity of his injuries.

The victim reported that she was attacked after complaining about the death of her cat

According to the information provided by the authorities, the man stated that he observed how two individuals ran over his cat while they were driving in a car.

The affected person assured that he decided to confront them, which led to an argument.

During the altercation, he stated that they both got out of the vehicle and that one of them pulled out a firearm and shot him in the head. Later, the same attacker allegedly hit him with the frame of a bicycle, according to testimony collected by investigators.

Despite the severity of the attack, the man survived.

Authorities continue search for suspects

The Sheriff's Office reported that the two suspects have not yet been arrested.

As part of the investigation, agents have executed several search warrants in search of evidence that will allow those responsible to be identified and located.

Authorities requested the community's collaboration and urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Criminal Investigations Division or the TIPS Hotline.

So far, authorities have not released additional information about the suspects or the possible motive for the attack beyond the story offered by the victim.

The investigation remains ongoing and authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with this case.
