The Mexican Armed Forces seized 200 kilos of methamphetamine, which were transported in a parcel vehicle and were hidden in industrial reels, on a highway in the municipality of Caborca, in the state of Sonora.
In a statement, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) detailed that the seizure occurred as part of an operation on the highway, where the truck driver was detained.
“The security agents implemented inspection operations accompanied by surveillance tours on the Mexico 2 International Highway, in the municipality of Caborca, where they had contact with the driver of a vehicle from a parcel delivery company, on whom they carried out a security check to avoid the commission of any crime,” the document stated.
When carrying out the inspection in the cargo area of the vehicle, the agents detected modifications and irregularities in the wooden reels, which were apparently transporting hoses.
“When searching its interior, they located 200 kilos of methamphetamine, which were processed for seizure,” the authorities explained.
Due to this, the driver was arrested, and the drugs and the vehicle were seized, which were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
According to estimates, the seized drugs represent an economic impact on organized crime of about 2.8 million dollars.
Mexico has received pressure from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to more actively combat drug trafficking, although as a result there has been an increase in tensions between both governments in terms of security and the fight against organized crime.
