A father in Ohio was charged with serious assault after allegedly shooting the man accused of raping his 11-year-old daughter, whom, according to the Prosecutor's Office, he lured to his home by posing as the minor through TikTok.
The case occurred in Grove City, Ohio, and both the father and the alleged attacker face criminal charges arising from different events.
The investigation began after the discovery of a video
According to prosecutors, the girl's mother found a video on her daughter's cell phone that allegedly showed Diego Montoya Gonzalez, 20, sexually assaulting the minor inside the family home.
According to the indictment, the next day Malik Chandler, 31, the girl's father, used his daughter's TikTok account to contact Montoya Gonzalez and convince him to return to the house.
The father said he thought the suspect was going to pull out a gun.
During the investigation, Chandler stated that initially his intention was to hit the suspect, hold him in the home and then call the police.
However, he assured investigators that he thought he saw Montoya Gonzalez reach for a gun that he supposedly had in his pocket. At that moment he took a firearm that was on a counter and shot him twice.
When officers arrived at the scene they found Montoya Gonzalez sitting in a chair with two gunshot wounds.
The young man was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for medical attention.
Both face criminal proceedings
Following the shooting, Chandler was charged with felony assault. A judge set his bail at $100,000.
For its part, a grand jury indicted Montoya Gonzalez on five counts related to the dissemination of sexual material, two counts of rape and one count of obstruction of police work.
Prosecutors also maintain that during the investigation several videos were found on his phone that would show child sexual abuse, including one in which a baby or a very young child appears.
Montoya Gonzalez appeared in a Franklin County court on Monday, where the minor's parents were present.
The judge set a recognizance bond of $20,000 and a cash bond of $50,000.
If he regains his freedom while the judicial process continues, he will be prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or his family and will not be able to use the Internet for purposes other than those related to his work.
So far, the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office has not offered additional information about the case.
