A multiple accident on the Guadalajara-Tepic federal highway in Mexico left at least 10 dead and 10 injured, including four Americans, authorities from Jalisco and Nayarit reported.

The crash occurred on Sunday at kilometer 69, in the vicinity of the municipality of Magdalena, Jalisco, which involved at least eight vehicles, including tractor-trailers and private cars. According to the first reports, the mishap originated after a rear-end collision between two tractor-trailers that was attended to by members of the National Guard. During the work in the area, a third tractor-trailer hit the scene of the accident, which caused several vehicles to catch fire. The Nayarit authority reported that three private vehicles and two tractor-trailers were completely consumed by the fire. In addition, two private cars and an official National Guard unit were damaged.

Four Americans were taken to a hospital in Guadalajara

Civil Protection Authorities of Jalisco reported that four US citizens suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital in Guadalajara to receive medical attention. In addition, four other people with minor injuries were taken to a hospital in the state of Nayarit. Among the injured are also two members of the National Guard, who were reported in serious condition and transferred to the Magdalena Hospital.
