Mexican singer Angela Aguilar joined the celebrations for the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12, offering words of gratitude and a musical tribute during her performance in San Diego, California.
With this gesture, the young star of regional Mexican music reaffirmed her devotion and solidified her place among the new generation of artists who keep the Guadalupan traditions alive.
The musical moment
During her concert, Aguilar surprised everyone by performing the emblematic song “Cielito Lindo” a cappella, in the version popularized by Miguel Aceves Mejia. As she sang the verse, “I love dark-skinned women, ever since I learned that the Virgin of Guadalupe is dark-skinned, my darling,” the artist deeply connected with the audience, highlighting the tradition of paying homage to Mexico's patron saint on this significant date. According to videos posted on social media, the show was marked by a gesture of closeness with the attendees when a fan gifted her a shawl with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which she proudly and gratefully displayed on stage. Prior to her performance, Aguilar shared a personal message on her Instagram stories addressed to the Virgin: “Happy day, beautiful dark-skinned one. Thank you for accompanying me in the most difficult moments, for silently watching over me, and for supporting me when I feel fragile. I place myself under your mantle with faith and gratitude.” The post was accompanied by a photograph of her in front of an altar adorned with an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In other posts, the artist showed a candle with the image of the Virgin, reinforcing the thread of devotion that marked her entire day on December 12th.
