Actor Brendan Fraser expressed his excitement about the development of a fourth installment in the "Mummy" franchise, a film that, in his own words, he has been waiting 20 years to make.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Fraser revealed that, while the original series — which began in 1999 with "The Mummy," followed by "The Mummy Returns" (2001) and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (2008) — was a success, the film he always envisioned never materialized. “The one I wanted to make never got made,” the actor stated. Earlier this month, Variety confirmed that Universal Pictures is officially developing this new sequel, which will feature not only Fraser's return but also Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, who played Evelyn Carnahan in the first two films. The film will be directed by the duo Radio Silence, comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on “Ready or Not” (2019) and for revitalizing the “Scream” saga in 2022. Reflecting on the third film, Fraser reflected on the third film in the series, explaining that while he is proud of the final result and considers it “a good standalone film,” the circumstances of its production—related to NBC's Olympic broadcast rights—led to a different approach. "We picked up the project and We did what we usually do with a different team and gave it our best. But the one I wanted to make is yet to come. And I've been waiting for this call for 20 years." The actor had already expressed his interest in reprising his role as adventurer Rick O'Connell in an interview with Variety a few years ago, shortly before winning the Oscar for “The Whale.” On that occasion, he indicated that he would be “open” to a new sequel if “the right idea” came along. Fraser's return marks a significant contrast with the reboot of “The Mummy” that Universal released in 2017, starring Tom Cruise. Fraser did not participate in that project, which was widely criticized by both the press and the public. Regarding that version, Fraser commented: “The ingredient we had in our favor for 'The Mummy,' which I didn't see in that film, was fun.'The Mummy' should be exciting, but not scary or creepy.”

At the moment, Universal has not announced a release date for the highly anticipated fourth installment, but the news of Fraser and Weisz's return, along with the direction of Radio Silence, has undoubtedly generated great excitement among fans of the saga.
