Javier Tebas raised the tone of his criticism against Gianni Infantino and assured that the FIFA president should leave office after the withdrawal of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, the initiative with which the organization intended to create a subsidiary to commercially manage the World Cup and other tournaments.
The LaLiga leader used his social networks over the weekend to assess FIFA's reversal and maintained that the problem was not resolved with the cancellation of the proposal.
"Infantino should not continue. That FIFA has withdrawn its proposal to privatize its competitions is good news. But it would be a serious mistake to think that this has resolved the governance problem," Tebas wrote.
The president of LaLiga pointed out that confederations, associations, leagues and players should not consider the matter closed because, in his opinion, the issue is “much deeper.”
In his message he listed several episodes that he considers worrying, including the withdrawal of a red card after a political intervention, the investigation opened in the United States Congress into Infantino's performance, the prices of World Cup tickets and the decisions made on calendars and competition formats without a broad process of dialogue.
Tebas questions FIFA's governance model
The Spanish leader insisted that the central problem is the government system of the international organization.
According to Tebas, FIFA needs “new leadership” capable of recovering institutional credibility and building future decisions through agreements with the actors involved, avoiding unilateral impositions.
"Withdrawing a proposal does not erase everything that happened. It is just the tip of the iceberg," he added.
FIFA had initially announced the possibility of selling 20% of FFE, an operation that provoked the rejection of several confederations and was finally abandoned by the body chaired by Infantino.
Response to Real Madrid for the CVC case
In addition to attacking FIFA, Tebas criticized the position of Real Madrid, which rejected the FFE project and compared it to LaLiga's operation with the CVC fund.
The president of LaLiga celebrated that the white club opposed FIFA unilaterally allocating future income from football, but questioned the moment chosen to do so and asked several questions about the presence of people linked to Real Madrid in New York during the week of the World Cup final.
Tebas also responded to the club's argument about CVC and defended that that operation was voluntary.
"The operation was voluntary: each club freely decided whether to join. Real Madrid did not do so, is not linked and has not committed a single euro of its income," he stated.
The leader added that he considers it contradictory that the club criticizes other entities for compromising future income when, according to him, it has carried out financial operations related to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and has explored formulas to allow investors to enter certain businesses.
The message concluded with new references to the Madrid president, Florentino Pérez, whom Tebas accused of having previously defended the Super League as a solution to football's economic problems.
